WHY ISN’T IT WARM YET

I kind of struggled with a title, but here you go!  THIS IS MY TRUTH.  Hello friends! I hope you are all doing well.  The sun is shining today, which makes me so happy! The Midwest taunted me this week with two straight days of sunny, 80 degree weather, which to me is normal April weather…but apparently temperatures on Wednesday were the second-warmest on record.  Womp. And then by Thursday, the weather dropped into the 40s and we had a freeze warning.  I WAS SAD. On Thursday, I reverted back to my angsty teens and 20s, where I would listen to sad music so I could FEEL MORE SAD as I stared out my window, thinking mean thoughts about Midwest weather and how it has BETRAYED ME.

We’ve had an eventful (? ok, eventful-ish) week for being stuck at home.  I ordered groceries for pickup but in a DIFFERENT STATE.  And if you’re thinking, Jenny…that’s a special kind of dumb, IT IS.  But also, HEY MEIJER, this is just a suggestion, but maybe add the state when you list the address to your Plainfield store, since I found out the hard way that there is both a Plainfield, Indiana, and a Plainfield, Illinois. (Sigh).  We also had a tornado warning Wednesday evening with crazy storms that blew through with 60-70 mph winds.  We were fine, but the town next to us sustained some damage.  And finally, we found out the neighbor across the street, who was outside coughing while talking to her next-door neighbors, has the virus (and apparently had already known that she had the virus but was still outside coughing and chatting with other neighbors and ignoring social distance protocol?  COOL).

Today has been good though. I felt better yesterday and I’m starting to settle in some kind of routine. I had a call with some Engineer Board friends last night, I had my Italian lesson this morning, and started taking drum lessons again virtually with my instructor! I haven’t practiced at allllllllllllllll these past four weeks, because work still makes me sad and I’m exhausted by the end of the day.  But the lesson was good and now I feel encouraged to get back into practicing.   Husband and I are doing a Zoom call with some friends later, so it’ll be fun to see some familiar faces and socialize.

I’m making a lot of progress with my Earl Grey wrap!

I must have dropped a stitch so I’m struggling to get my stitch count accurate with the last couple of rows…but otherwise, it’s been a breeze! I hope I can finish it this weekend.

I also received a package from one of my close friends, who was a bridesmaid in my wedding. She must have known how homesick I’ve been feeling this week, because look at what she sent me:

She sent us a card and a set of coasters with bluebonnets on them!  It’s bluebonnet season right now in Texas and I have been missing them. What makes this even more special is she selected a photo that she’d taken on my wedding day, while we are doing a photo shoot in the wildflowers.  I don’t want to post pictures of my bridesmaids without their permission, so I’ll just post one of meeeee.  Exhibit A, WEDDING BLUEBONNETS DURING PEAK BLUEBONNET SEASON:

Enjoying the beautiful flowers while fire ants attack my legs. BUT IT’S ALL GOOD BECAUSE WE GOT GREAT PHOTOS AND MY DRESS HID THE ANT BITES. Photo is by You Are My True.

I am so fortunate to have such sweet friends.  This is gift I will cherish forever.

Before I go, I have one more photo to share with you. I’ve been making a lot of banana bread, and Apollo is OBSESSED with banana bread. I don’t know why, but he’s already managed to steal several bites of banana bread while we are eating it. It’s both infuriating and hilarious.  Finally, with my last batch of banana bread, we were able to successfully keep the dog from helping himself to a bite.  I kid you not, this is the look he gave me after we kept him from banana bread:

This is definitely the biggest puppy side-eye I have ever seen.  This pup wants his banana bread!

Alrighty friends, I’m hungry so I’m going to make myself some lunch. I hope you all have a great weekend. And I hope wherever you’re at, it’s sunny and you’re able to enjoy a bit of spring!

  1. OMG – you are gorgeous bride – I loooove your dress! And yes, the Midwest weather in the spring is awful – the only thing I can say is that when the warm stretch finally hits in May, it is all the sweeter for having waited so long. I love Apollo’s expression in the picture and honestly that’s the look I’d be giving your totally inconsiderate and ignorant neighbor, too!! What the heck!!!! Be well and I hope our weather both here in MI and there in IN improves very soon!

    • Thank you so much! 🙂 Maybe it’s good that the weather isn’t that great yet, to make staying inside just a little easier. He is such a little joker 🙂 I hope you are well too!

  2. Okay, first of all, OMG what a gorgeous wedding picture! You were/are stunning! I’d never guess you were being attacked by fire ants! 😀 And second, yes, even us native Midwesterners get angry when the weather teases us like that! I loved those warm days so much, and I’m ready for more!
