I woke up on Saturday feeling melancholy. There were a dozen things contributing to my mood, but if you asked me to place my finger on just one cause, I would say – results are imminent. And each time, I forget how poorly I did on the exam and get a glimmer of hope that I will pass.
I knew I would feel worse if I didn’t throw myself into my routine, so I started making a pot of coffee and working on my chores. Slowly, I started feeling better, and once Husband woke up, I was mostly back to my normal self. The haze of melancholy has lingered, just a little, like a veil I keep trying to throw off of me. But it’s nesting season, after all, so it is to be expected. My brother dubbed this time of year (October – March) as “nesting season,” because while it’s really cozy, there’s less daylight, and you have a lot of time to reflect and think. It’s very easy to sink into melancholia.
But I did things this weekend that made me happy and relaxed – grabbing coffee with Husband, getting the house in order, exercising, VISITING NEW YARN STORES.
Husband passes a store called the Knitting Cup as he heads to work, and we visited that on Saturday. I bought several kits, because I looooove kits and could not resist.
Look at all this yummy yarn:
When we returned home, I was inspired to clean my craft space and select easy projects for Christmas. This is very overly ambitious of me, and some of my loved ones will probably be getting gifts in February. But since I have a Michael’s worth of yarn upstairs in my guest room, I figured it was time to put it to good use.
I started knitting a simple ribbed scarf that DEFINITELY NEEDS SOME BLOCKING.
I’m supposed to be in the field this weekend, so this is the perfect easy project for me to take and work on in the hotel room.
I’m also working on a baby blanket (#NOTMYBABY). The baby is due probably, like, any day now, so she will probably be getting this sometime next month (maybe?)
Having projects to work on centers me as I reflect on my year and consider what I need to work towards next.
I hope you all are having a great week!
